Hi All,

I'm trying to find some information on optimizing the accessibility of sheet music. The specific context that I am researching for is providing sheet music and musical notations in electronic documents for an online course.

A preliminary web search turned up a number of projects in this space, but I wasn't able to find anything with recent activity, or with notable (sorry, couldn't help myself) results.

Thank you,

George

I dealt with access to sheet music a few years back when I wrote the Music chapter of the Accessible Image Sample Book<http://diagramcenter.org/accessible-image-sample-book/sample-8-music.html>;. Although the content itself is still intact, some of the links on that page now longer work and I don't think Benetech is updating the site anymore since the grant that funded the DIAGRAM Center has expired. Nonetheless, I believe the content is still factually correct.

Music.xml is the standard used for digital music scores. This standard is used by the common score applications like MuseScore, Guitar Pro, etc. Some vendors are using a customised version of the XML schemer specific to their application.

The products I have used personally which have a degree of accessibility in the Free Market is MuseScore 3. MuseScore 4 is also including accessibility for music scores.

Dancing dot uses the Lime editor which they have customised. It is accessible to low vision users and Screen reader users. Has its own challenges from a feature set point of view. This product will convert from music score into Braille.

Braille Music Editor 2021 has been designed for Blind music learners. This product will convert Braille Music into print score.

I hope the above information helps.
