I don't have any older versions at hand, but :active works fine in my
Netscape 6.2.

It doesn't behave like :active does in IE, if that's what you mean. But I
don't believe IE's behavior follows the wording of the CSS specification's
definition of :active.

Hi Bill,

You're right, of course.

I should have said: "To achieve the functionality of the :focus pseudo-class in IE, you will need to use :active as well as :focus".
