Is captioning a live webcast possible? I know the guidelines mention
adding text captioning to multimedia clips but I haven't heard anything
about creating captioning for live web events. Is there any guidelines
that suggest that live captioning is a mandatory accommodation?

Kevin,
Actually, live Web casts are included under the Access Board standard which
states:
"All training and informational video and multimedia productions which
support the agency's mission, regardless of format, that contain speech or
other audio information necessary for the comprehension of the content,
shall be open or closed captioned."
Since a Web cast is multi-media and contains audio information essential to
the message, it counts. I have done a partial search and suggest checking
into these vendors:
Speche - www.speche.com/e_scription.asp
Rapidtext - www.rapidtext.com/sub/textcast.htm
RealTime Reporters - www.rtreporters.com
Also check out www.captions.org/alphalinks2.cfm for more information on this
topic.
