I just discovered a "new" on-line accessibility validator brought to you by
the folks at Watchfire.

http://webxact.watchfire.com/

Looks like they are building a new marketplace for validator software (see
"Privacy" tab). Just thought I would share.

I just noticed that yesturday as well. Tested a few pages on it, and found
it great to use for a "quick" check. And the format is much easier to
understand for begginners than Bobby or AccVerify.

I agree, Im now trying to understand accuverify. Although, accuverify
says my pages passed for accessibility, but bobby says it needs
repairs.

That is interesting - perhaps you can point us to the page.... Bobby and
AccVerify are different and neither bobby or accverify are the final say on
your page because there is manual testing... I would be curious to know what
the page is so i can see thanks!

Thank you for the online validator, I have the software accuverify 5.1
with accurepair plugin. Im still very new to it. Do you know if
there is a function that can "crawl" through all my files on the web &
let me know if they have been accessed? probably not, but just a
thought.

You can use our stats software Hi-Stats and do a compare or probably any
stats software available.... Also you should have DS2 or 6.2 our new version
:) Best of luck in your Accessibility Work: DS2
http://www.hisoftware.com/access/accds2ibtro.html

And some asked off list but the answer I think has value to all:

- The new tester runs no advertising at all
- The new tester is not limited to one page per minute
- Full Source is available in C#

Cheers,
Rob

I've now seen 4 messages from hisoftware on this list. You're not
selling anything, but I do get spammed every week by some alias called
"D. Little" hawking hisoftware and I don't care for it.

The thing about sales and spam mails is that they just jump in with
their one-track focus irrespective of and oblivious to ongoing dialogue.
It actually has the effect of making me vow never to use anything
offered by this outfit.

Interesting how these are all beginning to look more simplified or much
like the Cynthia Says Portal...

I happen to like these types of reports.

I ran a page through, though there were no accessibility items or issues
so I did not see how the include file source works. I will try[without
much effort] to find some page out there that shows how that works.

I do question, though I may have missed this... that the report seems
tailored to *only* section 508.
While there are good checks in the section 508 tools, I do not feel they
are up to the best possible or range that is available for checking out
there so far... I would like Cynthia Says and others to retrofit those
checks to do complete testing against the published testing guidelines
[sect 508, and WCAG 1.0 priority levels 1, 2, and 3]

Meeting section 508, to me, is not complete enough.
All tests are not complete enough but the four sets of guidelines is
better than just the one set to me.

Cynthia Says does offer the options of all test checks, though since
they imployed the more than one minute wait per domain, this can become
an issue. It would be nice if Cynthia Says adopted an *all in one* test.

==
Then of course, I believe it would be good to offer up tips and ideas to
others after making a disclaimer somewhere about these test results
about how to manually check work for items that fall outside of the
guidelines. [includes device dependent navigation -- aka mouseless, and
others. ]

==
I like the addition of the ALT report, it covers some of those areas
outside of automated checks. I wonder if it could be on the same page as
the other results? in a different section?

Holly, I agree that Section 508 is not enough.. But if you're talking about
the Hisoft validator, it's dropdown does 508 as well as WCAG I, II, & III...

And the interesting thing is, the report I received from Hisoft is identical
(even the formatting) as Cynthia Says... I'd say they're all just reselling
or repackaging "something"...

For what it's worth...

Upon reload of the page I do see that it does offer checks against the
different guidelines... though I would really like to see the option of
ALL of the above in that form dropdown. :)

Otherwise, I am not sure where or how this is very different from
Cynthia[again I will have to check or run it a few more times.]

Improvement. No time wait limit for retesting.
Improvement. Ability to check more than one page.

Nice job. I like that it is quick, and to the point on items tested.
Thanks for sharing the link.

I did notice that there was some lag time when the link was resolving to
the test page.[not the test itself]
That could be my oddly behaving DSL or could be server side or traffic
on the other end?

I saw that after I posted and reloaded the link. :)
Though I would *really* like to see that All of the above option
available. And it would be nice if the site remembered that choice for
future visits. Even better would be a desktop version that can run
locally without being connected to the Internet or other authoring
applications.

It looked almost identical to me.
Now are both these tests based on the layout and listing of guidelines
at WAI , the WCAG 1.0?
Yet, they both display results identically... I do really like this
format, though I have been working with guidelines for quite a few
years, and cutting all the excess other stuff out is nice for me. I
wonder how well this works for those new to this area? And then there
are those that prefer examples and graphical examples or display.

Unfortunately, based on my initial (granted cursory) check - it's throwing the same variety of "false" positives that Bobby used to throw... so I wonder how useful it'll be, particularly to "experienced" professionals...
