I didn't realize that JAWS was time limited outside of the 40 minutes before
rebooting thing. Today JAWS told me that I only have 4 days left of my
trial.
I'd like to get JAWS, but I'm not sure if budget will allow for it at this
point. So, that said, what screen reader product would people recommend as
being the closest alternative to JAWS that one could use to test their sites
on?

The closest alternative is probably Connect Outloud. It's from
Freedom Scientific as well, and duplicates the JAWS web browser
reading function, but nothing else. Much cheaper, too. For testing
Web pages, you really don't need the power of JAWS.
