Hello,
I am a non disabled person with a background in human services and a BS and
certification in special education. I work as a private tutor teaching
adults with cognitive/communication disabilities to use computers for
recreation, communication and for other generally useful purposes. I am also
the advisory member on the board of a non-profit inclusive early childhood
education center and am currently helping them to set up a technology /
computer lab. I am beginning to work on getting a certificate in assistive
technology and am particularly interested in IT/computer based assistive
technologies. My long term goals include earning a masters in cognitive
psychology and possibly working in the areas of accessibility/usability and
research and development of IT related assistive technologies.
With these goals and interests in mind I would also like to gain experience
in the area of web / IT accessibility.
1) What jobs at the entry - intermediate levels exist in the areas of web
site testing and evaluating / compliance / consulting etc...?
2) What skills, experiences and competencies are required to do these jobs.
3) What advice, if any, would you give to a person with my background and
goals. Does my general plan make sense to you?
Thank you for any advice and guidance you may have to offer! Liddy
