Hi,

I want to design a site that works well on a low bandwidth connection. When
I design I'm either working with a local copy or with a fast internet
connection. Does anyone know of a piece of software (eg a proxy or browser
plugin) that simulates the effect of a slow link? Ideally I'd like something
where I can click a button and specify a connection bandwith (eg 56kb). The
software would then slow down the supply of data so I get the appropriate
experience?

I've tried searching and can't find anything.

Malcolm

Hi Malcolm,

"WebSpeed Simulator" can be used to simulate the required connection speed.
You can download it from http://xat.com/internet_technology/download.html

I am sure it will solve the purpose.

Hello Malcolm,

Here's a link to a handy Web page download time test:
http://www.websiteoptimization.com/services/analyze/
It lists times ranging from a 14.4 modem to a T1 broadband connection

I know it from the Firefox extention called Web Developer Extension
http://chrispederick.com/work/webdeveloper/
Once installed you'll find it under Tools > View Speed Report

Note: The extention has loads of other lovely tools ;) I find the window
resizer and outline block level elements tools to be especially handy.

Shawn

Thanks all for the recommendations regarding bandwidth throttling. For now
I'll work with the free version as it seems very comprehensive.
