Since HiSoftware has done this for over 7 years and of course other vendors have -- I wonder what they mean by world's first!

I might be underestimating the power of the software, but how does it
extract structure from a Word doc or PDF that hasn't been structured?

I very much doubt it can, with any accuracy anyway.
Maybe it makes an approximation of implied structure based on certain
text size contained within the document?

However, where tools like this are useful (if they work) there is still
a need for quality control and human assessment. I don't like the sound
of purely automated tools producing rubbish documents (am not implying
that this is the case here).

Garbage in , garbage out.

Perhaps they are using clairvoyance heuristics? After all, we all know
software companies never exaggerate the capabilities of their products.
