(*Apologies for the cross-posting.)

Hello,

I am posing the following questions on behalf of a colleague who is
currently looking at putting in place training for our
developers on accessibility as part of a larger curriculum for that
audience.

1. Do folks here have any recommendations for vendors who provide generic
off-the-shelf eLearning that covers the fundamentals of
accessibility geared to an IT audience? I am looking for eLearning
courseware that would include some basic test questions, in addition to
content. I've already looked at the SkillSoft catalogue, but their
courses, from a high-level look, seem to be geared specifically to web or
windows topics and accessibility, as opposed to a
high-level overview of accessibility, why it is important, etc.

2. I would also be curious to know how folks here provide
accessibility training to their developers. Specifically, does
anyone here offer in-house courses
on accessibility (either off-the-shelf or internally developed). How are
these delivered? Are they compulsory? On demand?

Any assistance would be appreciated.

Thanks,

Jennison

Hi Jennison,

If you don't find what you're looking for, my company
can develop custom training (including elearning) on
IT-related topics. My background is instructional
design, as well as IT. Please feel free to contact
me.

Thanks,
Jodi

WebAIM has the Guide to Web Accessibility -
http://webaim.org/products/training/
It covers everything from the basic concepts to advanced techniques
for web accessibility. It does not, however, have test questions -
it's more of a reference book type resource.

I'm not aware of any other readily available courseware for web
accessibility, though there's certainly much information available
freely on the web.

We have also helped many groups develop in-house training. WebAIM
often provides initial training for organizations, but we typically
provide it in a trainer-the-trainer model where individuals at an
organization are empowered to then provide additional training and
support to others in the organization. We've seen a wide variety of
internal implementations of training and resources from e-delivery to
in-person training. I've seen very few that are compulsory.

Hi There.
I came across this website. I have taken some of their free workshops. They offer many types of accessibility training, including a certificate. Hopefully, this will help. Good Luck.

It is not generic and off-the-shelf but maybe be some use
Please don't have another go at me for my colour schemes, they are
partially due to colour blindness types.
Black background is the default there are seven other options.

I am trying to show the search engine benefits of validity and
accessibility for Australian Universities.
Its 600 Kb and includes an accessibility and other featires checklist
based largely on WCAG 1.0 checklist.

There are groups selling training courses in Aust $495 a head per day,
they are having a battle to shut me up at the moment.

Tim

We here at NC State University provide in-house, internally developed
training on accessibility issues including Universal Design, Section
508, Tips and Tools for Developing Accessible Course Materials, and
using LIFT for Dreamweaver. We provide standard workshops every
semester, as well as custom training on request, and one-on-one house
calls that are totally customized to the developer's needs.

Hope this helps! :-)
