Hello,

Now that WCAG 2.0 is released, from a practical perspective (i.e., taking
into account any time required to review the guidelines, update in-house
training material, etc.), I am curious as to what internal timeframe folks
are working toward in terms of adopting and using these new guidelines for
your own development and testing efforts?

Hello,

We've been keeping a close eye on V2.0 over the past few years, and in fact
had created a V1.0 'transitional' set of guidelines to help our clients over
the past month to see where they stand. The good news is that V2.0 is
easier to understand and apply, so I don't think it will take you very long
to review them and update in-house training materials.

We have already updated our materials and are working with V2.0 with one of
our clients today in fact. Our training material will be updated shortly.

Good luck!

We are adopting it immediately, mostly because we are switching our university web template on January 9. I put together a simple slide show for our faculty and staff. Anyone may use this slide show if you like, please credit.

The W3C has done a great job of providing materials to help folks
through the transition. At Knowbility, we have been urging gradual
transition for months, ever since the Guidelines reached Candidate
Recommendation. Many have made the transition within weeks. For
others, especially those who have not previously done accessibility
and/or for government agencies that rely on externally determined
standards, it will take longer. How much longer is a matter of the
project size and the internal knowledge, resources and will to make
the change.

The W3C provides a good overview of
<http://www.w3.org/WAI/WCAG20/from10/websites.html>;How to Transition
although it doesn't say much about a time frame.

And if you happen to be the evangelist in your organization, W3C has
also made available a number of
<http://www.w3.org/WAI/presentations/WCAG20_about/>;WCAG 2.0
presentations and videos to support your efforts. And I
wholeheartedly agree with others on this list who have noted the
relative clarity of the new guidelines, so I would encourage folks to
make the transition as soon as possible within your specific environment.

Best,
Sharron

I know of one certification organisation in Belgium that updated
their guidelines and testing to a draft of WCAG 2.0 in 2006, so the
migration to the official recommendation is already partly done.
(Although one migth argue about how big that part really is.)
But countries where English is not an official language would also be
interested in translations. I'm already aware of discussions about a
French and a Dutch translation.
I also expect to see discussions about a German translations quite
soon, but people will also be adapting the criteria for the yearly
BIENE awards (awards for accessible websites) and mapping documents
like the one at
<http://www.einfach-fuer-alle.de/artikel/bitv/matrix/>;.

Best regards,

Christophe
