>Hi everyone,

Here's a curious item for all of you. ...:

US supermarket site www.vons.com is generally an accessibility
disaster area (esp the safeway.com online ordering section). However,
there is an ARIA AlertDialog in the code on the Vons.com homepage.

Unfortunately I can't figure out what the dialog is supposed to do. ...

In IE6 I get a notification that there is an ARIA Alert Dialog
(though of course it doesn't work).

IE7 & FF3 both show me a
"activityi;src=1411188;type=relau807;cat=homep746;ord=8896695796452"
frame with no content in it.

I'm running Jaws 10 (the now ancient Build 512), but I thought it
would at least work with Firefox. (I don't have IE8 to test at the moment.)

So, if anyone could test www.vons.com with IE8 & screen reader, or
could rummage in the source code, I would be very interested to know
your findings.

Thanks,
Patrick

I just looked at it briefly with Voiceover and clicked on the grocery
delivery link and its definitely strange. There were two frames, one
was a search and one was a log in frame. Then it had a really odd
frame that just kept repeating a link "new header dot ask" or
something, but I couldn't interact with the text to spell it out.
Didn't look at anything else since you mentioned the ordering. Strange
indeed. Hopefully others can shed light on the programming and Aria.

hi patrick, there is some ARIA code in there, it appears to be
included because they are using some Yahoo UI components, which
include ARIA, but it does not appear to be intentional as it includes
the text "Shows a Modal Dialog built using SimpleDialog using the ARIA
role of alertdialog"

I tried it with JAWS 10 and IE8/firefox3 did not pick up the ARIA.

so unfortunately vons continues to be "an accessibility disaster area"
