Subject: Austin Lounge Lizards player frame

Hi. Can anyone zoom over to www.austinlizards.com and tell me why screenreader-users cannot see the buttons in the player frame? I have the ear of the webmaster. It would be good to have something intelligent to speak into it.

Cant answer your question but while you have his ear let him
know about this accessibility error:
1.4.2: Audio Control:
If any audio on a Web page plays automatically for more than 3
seconds, either a mechanism is available to pause or stop the audio,
or a mechanism is available
to control audio volume independently from the overall system volume
level. (Level A)
Note: Since any content that does not meet this success criterion can
interfere with a user's ability to use the whole page, all content on
the Web page
(whether or not it is used to meet other success criteria) must meet
this success criterion. See Conformance Requirement 5: Non-Interference.

He thinks there is a pause button. Problem is I can't see it.

What screen reader+version,browser+version, and Flash player version are
you running on your system?

Neither can my screen reader, in some cases I can stop the audio by
hitting "escape" but it doesn't work in this case.
Personally his having a pause button that I was able to see doesn't
help much because I'd have to go looking for it and the first thing
I would do is use my heading command and when I didn't find what I
was looking for I would close down my browser, which is exactly what I did.

I agree. Let the owner that its too bad their site is inaccessible as I
might like to know more about the band. I was intrigued by the audio content
and I'm usually not. regards.

Hello Carin,
The wmode parameter of the object tag is set to "Transparent". This must
be set to "window" (i.e. <PARAM NAME="WMode" VALUE="window">) or not set
(defaulted to window).
Once set to window, accessibility of the Flash movie will be exposed
through the player and to AT.

Ack. I told them that it was likely set to transparent or opaque. He responded with "it's not transparent." I think the poor boy doesn't understand.

Good morning Carin,
You might also point out that even the most properly designed
accessible Flash object is still inaccessible to screen-reader users
on Mac and Linux.
