Hi. Someone wants to alt tag graphics in a PDF, and they tried a couple of different ways, and all I got were numbers on the graphics. What is the proper way to tag a PDF?

Thanks.

Are you making the pdf yourself (if so, how) or are you just doing repair? If the latter, what tools do you have?

It's a staff from the city. I think she's using acrobat but I'll have to check to confirm.

Have you checked the 'Document Properties' in Adobe Reader/Adobe
Acrobat? These properties tell you which "PDF Producer" was used, the
PDF version, if the PDF file is tagged, if the file is optimised for
fast web view, etcetera.

Best regards,

Christophe

She says she's using Adobe Acrobat 9 Standard and doing a repair on an existing document.

Last time I checked, remediation could only be done using Adobe Acrobat Pro. However, it should be possible to correct the source document(s) and use Adobe Acrobat Standard to generate an PDF with alternate text for the graphics.

It has been several years since I've been involved in creating PDF documents so someone with more recent experience may want to correct me here if things have changed.

She's going to need Acrobat Pro to do tag remediation.

Thanks,
