Subject: A Cognitive Accessibility Project

The first annual meeting of the RESNA Standards Committee on Cognitive
Technologies (CT) will take place June 8, 2011. Whether or not you can
attend this meeting, it is still possible to join this new accessibility
standards committee and help make technology easier to use.

What is this project?

There has been impressive accessibility work to make computers, the web,
cell phones and other technology usable by people with motor and sensory
impairments. Now it is time to address the needs of people with
cognitive impairments.

This project by the RERC-ACT of the University of Colorado School of
Medicine aims to make everyday technology products more usable by people
with cognitive impairment resulting from conditions such as Alzheimer's,
attention disorder, brain injury, cerebral palsy, Down's syndrome,
learning disability, Parkinson's disease and stroke. Of course, many
people will benefit from better design and more options for
customization. Please see this RERC-ACT newsletter article
<http://rerc-act.org/NewsAndEvents/Newsletter/NewsletterV5N2FDecember201
0.pdf> for more information on the project.

What can you do?

* Join the RESNA Standards Committee on Cognitive Technologies.
Information on the first meeting follows. You can also contact the
chair, Seanna Kringen, = EMAIL ADDRESS REMOVED = , (831) 685-4798, for
more information.
* Take a survey <http://www.beneficialdesigns.com/survey>; to
share your thoughts about the technologies that are most important for
people with cognitive impairment.
