Hi All,

Does anyone have any up to date information on how mobile web and app
accessibility is covered by law in the USA? I have all details for the 21st
Century Act which requires handsets to ship with an accessible browser by
2013 but wondered how other laws in the States might relate to content.

Many thanks, Henny

The forthcoming Section 508 "Refresh" sweeps everything under new language
-- a broad umbrella -- "information communication technology" that must be
compliant with WCAG 2.0. It merges the requirements of Section 508 of the
Rehabilitation Act of 1973 and Section 255 of the Telecommunications Act of
1996 (and if I remember correctly, a couple of other pieces of legislation).

The 2011 draft is here:
http://access-board.gov/508.htm
View the Notice on the Release to read the Board's intent and get a good
overview of the regulations.
And 2011 Draft Updated Standards for the latest version of the draft.

It's my view that mobile apps are covered and must be WCAG 2.0 compliant.
