Howdy,

I’m totally curious about something.

Recently I tagged a document in PDF that was a scan from 1998. I’m wondering if technically it didn’t need to be Section 508 compliant, since the document was created prior to June 25, 2001. However, it (most likely) was created as a PDF after June 25, 2001, though.

It wasn’t a big deal to make it accessible. I’m really just curious about this, as it was the first time this has come up.

Thanks,

Jon Metz

The interpretation of 508 for state of Texas agencies is that we have to
consider the date of the posting. So if I were to scan a document today
that was created in 1958 I would still need to make it compliant before
posting on-line or distributing the electronic version in the agency.
