Hi, all.

At a conference last year, I heard that the Access Board would be updating the Section 508 standards and that the new version as related to web accessibility would look quite a bit like WCAG 2.0 AA.

I am meeting with folks at my institution tomorrow and would like to recommend that we embrace WCAG 2.0 AA as our goal for all of our web sites. Do you have handy any resources that would help me make this case?

Hi Rachel,

" Chapters 4, 5, and 6 all contained technical requirements closely adapted from the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.0 Success Criteria which were rephrased in mandatory language."

2nd sentence of the last paragraph of this section. (http://www.access-board.gov/guidelines-and-standards/communications-and-it/about-the-ict-refresh/draft-rule-2011/notice-on-the-release-2011-draft-anprm#two )

However, The final standards may not be enforceable until late 2014 or early 2015. Thankx.

Sincerely,

Joe

Hi Rachel,

I was fortunate to sit in on Bruce Bailey chat about Accessible Web
Content with WCAG 2.0. You can check out the recording of that web cast
here:

Bruce made the recommendation that agencies start NOW to adopt the WCAG A
& AA, and they can start to do this through 1194.5, 'Equivalent
facilitation'. While they arenĀ¹t enforceable as of yet, it certainly
stands to reason that nothing hurts to be ahead of the game!
