application which will announce or "read" keys as they are being

This is a bit of a belated response, but I'm responding with a follow-up
question to better understand what you're looking for. You don't want a
full-fledged screen reader, you just want a program that will announce the
key when the key is pressed. Is that right?

Good Day,
Thank you for your reponse, Paul. You describe exactly what I am
seeking. I oversee a program that teaches adaptive and basic
computing skills to people with developmental disabilities. I've
learned that it may be extremely beneficial for these individuals to
have audio reinforcement of each key that is typed so that keying
errors might be reduced. I am looking for a no- or -low-cost
solution for this problem.
I realized after I sent the message that perhaps my target audience
would not be those of us working in web accessibility, but rather,
those of us who are working with computer access technology. I know
that there may be some overlap in these two groups and hoped my
request for information may be answered. However, the lack of
response might indicate that this is not the proper forum and
appreciate your time and attention.

Windows 2000 comes with a Narrator that will read keys pressed on your
keyboard as well as screen dialog.
