Hi Folks,
I need to buy DNS to manually test web pages and basic Windows applications
as people with disabilities use it. Will this Premium version be ample for
what I need?

I don't need the Pro and pick legal or any other profession. I just want the
one that those with limited keyboard or mouse access use to control their
Windows environment and the Web.
I also will be using DNS with JAWS 18. Do I have to do any preconfigurations
or simply install DNS and I am good to go?

with Dragon. I.e. speech input and speech output working together. If your
purpose for buying it is to confirm that speech recognition works and you do

I will actually need J-Say since I am totally blind. It will help me identify if DNS is working as it should while I perform manual testing of web pages.

I wouldn't buy J-Say until you're sure you need it. I've managed to
use Dragon 15 for dictation without it with few problems. However,
when it comes to browsing the web, YMMV, as I haven't tried it for
that.

All,
Last I checked Dragon works well with ZoomText.  Since the screen reader that comes with ZoomText is not too smart this is a good way to  test with two types of AT.

I also note that work is being done to allow the Windows speech recognition
program to work with some screen readers as well as working to get Dragon
and NVDA to work together. I cannot vouch for any of the work or
functionality with the newer efforts

DNS will work with jaws out of the box. But i would suggest looking at jsay to get the full experience. If you decide to use dns with jaws on a mlre permanent bases, then look at the other product that jsay provides as it work fully with jaws and allows you to issue jaws commands by saying them

That's going to be my primary goal is testing with DNS. I wouldn't want to sound stupid before my teams, while talking to a machine. LOL. Just kidding.
I am so used to using JAWS with a keyboard that I would slow down if I want to say out loud the shortcut keys of JAWS.

Actually, that is not how J-Say and Jaws and Dragon work. You can give a
simple command such as "move down, select that" and this happens. J-Say
interacts with the two programs so that you have confirmation that what you
desire to happen on the screen happened. The purpose of using Dragon is to
negate the need for a keyboard. A Braille display driven by JAWS works
nicely in this configuration as well. There are similarities to the commands
used with Siri. There is also a function which allows you to dictate
something into a text box or clipboard, spell-check and otherwise edit it.
Then you can copy and paste the information in to the document. If you are
blind or visually impaired demonstrating Dragon without JAWS and J-Say would
not be a satisfactory experience for anyone.

I am still using Dragon 13. I am still working to get web browsing to work
but it's having time to do it. I am using it on Windows 10 and having no
problems. My motivator was the presence of carpel tunnel syndrome. I am
encouraged that other screen readers are starting to be explored. I also
want to encourage people to go through the analysis process you did before
buying anything, "What will I be using it for, and do I really need...?".

I bought the 13 premium as I would just need it for testing. I did call the company first and spoke to their sales people to ensure that was the latest upgrade and it did what I needed it to do.

Good luck. Brian Hartgen, of Hartgen Consultancy is a terrific guy. There is
a number in the U.S. to call and he responds quite quickly. Also prompt via
email. My experience getting tech support from Nuance for Dragon is very

Actually, that is not how J-Say and Jaws and Dragon work. You can give a
simple command such as "move down, select that" and this happens. J-Say
interacts with the two programs so that you have confirmation that what you
desire to happen on the screen happened. The purpose of using Dragon is to
negate the need for a keyboard. A Braille display driven by JAWS works
nicely in this configuration as well. There are similarities to the commands
used with Siri. There is also a function which allows you to dictate
something into a text box or clipboard, spell-check and otherwise edit it.
Then you can copy and paste the information in to the document. If you are
blind or visually impaired demonstrating Dragon without JAWS and J-Say would
not be a satisfactory experience for anyone.

DNS will work with jaws out of the box. But i would suggest looking at jsay
to get the full experience. If you decide to use dns with jaws on a mlre
permanent bases, then look at the other product that jsay provides as it

problems. My motivator was the presence of carpel tunnel syndrome. I am
encouraged that other screen readers are starting to be explored. I also
want to encourage people to go through the analysis process you did before
buying anything, "What will I be using it for, and do I really need...?".

Actually DictationBridge is looking to release its first public beta this
week. But, it is a Beta. Something to look into if you're interested, but
it's more oriented to work with NVDA currently.

Thanks. I need to work with NVDA more than I currently do. I've used JAWS
since version 4.0 and I am very accustomed to its logic and keystrokes. I'm
not quite syncing with NVDA yet.
