I'm trying to put together a list of resource links for document creators in our office. Last week I watched an excellent Accessible PDF tutorial on Lynda.com. However, not everyone in our office has access to Lynda.com. I'm trying to find something similar in nature. Either a free online course, picture-heavy tutorial articles, etc. Do you have a favorite resource you like to refer people to for creating accessible MS Word documents and PDFs?

Thank you

Another resource: I just completed a series of three webinars on: for AMAC

Accessing PDF Forms 101: Webinar 1 of 3
Accessible Form Template Design: Webinar 2 of 3
The Basics of PDF Form Controls: Webinar 3 of 3

There are other webinars on topics that might be of interest to the list on this page:

Dear Sir or Madam, I am very interested in your books as well as your lessons however I want to know whether you print or provide braille books. On the other hand I want to know whether you have got computer Braille books for the blind. Actually I am a blind person and find it difficult to read and write PDF-files on a computer, therefore in which way can you help me?

Mubanga Chipalo.

Angela,

I'm a big fan of the materials the State of Texas has put together at http://gov.texas.gov/disabilities/accessibledocs/
The material is arranged in a series of "bite-sized" modules, so you can do as many as you can absorb, and go back for quick refreshers on specific topics. The modules are available in range of formats: video, MP3 audio, Word, and PDF.

The focus is on creating the original documents properly. The PDF module does not go into very much depth - just the basics!

I should have also mentioned the resources available from the State of Minnesota: http://www.mn.gov/mnit/programs/accessibility/electronic-documents.jsp

They are working on getting all state employees trained in creating accessible documents, and sharing all the materials they are creating for that. It even includes a PDF for printing nifty quick checklist cards for Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and PDF

Mubanga

I am a person who uses a screen reader and only publish in accessible format. My books are published in tagged compliant PDF so they are accessible. I do not publish in Braille and unfortunately do not have any Braille based resources for working with digital devices.

There are some free tutorials on the Karlen Communications website, but they too are in tagged PDF. However some of the sample documents are in Word. http://www.karlencommunications.com/OfficeForWindowsAccessibility.html

Cheers, Karen
