Whenever I use Radio Buttons in a PDF form and run the CommonLook WCAG 2.0 Validator, I get the failure:

"2 Radio Buttons share the same variable name, and hence would have the same tooltip (TU key)"

Am I doing it wrong? I thought radio button groups were supposed to share the same tooltip, and the screen reader reads the tooltip plus the 'choice' for each button?

Regards,

Joseph

CommonLook was correct to flag that.

The radio button group's field name and tooltip must be the same for all
buttons in the group. Only the Option for each item is unique.

From Adobe's accessibility guides at
https://www.adobe.com/accessibility/products/acrobat/creating-accessible-for
ms.html :

Tooltips for Radio Buttons
To create a radio button group, where only one field can be selected at a
time, assign each field the same name and the same tooltip, but provide
different Button Choices (values).

Right, followed that. I have the Name and Tooltip (Was Form Filed?) the same for both buttons. The Radio Button Choice is Yes for one and No for the other.
CommonLook is reporting that "2 Radio Buttons share the same variable Name, "Was Form Filed?", and hence would have the same tooltip (TU key)". JAWS and NVDA work perfectly.

Thanks.

That sounds like a CommonLook error.

For Radio Buttons, the name is the same for all of them as is the Tooltip
because they are a group where you have a single choice. The Options tab is
where you add the choices, in your case the Options tab for one Radio Button
will have yes as the choice and the Options tab for the other Radio Button
will have no for the choice..

So it sounds like your Radio Buttons are correct and the CommonLook tool is
wrong. The whole point of a group of Radio Buttons is that they share a
group name and ToolTip but differ in the options/choices.

Cheers, Karen
