An easier approach to the invisible graphic may be to include the summary
attribute or a caption in the data table. In my observations, JAWS wil treat
any table with a Summary attribute as a data table. (Note the summary
attribute does need to be set to something other than null.)

For the necessary layout tables, the ARIA markup role=presentation may be
the best in the long-term as ARIA support improves?...
