Intro and digest question

Hi Suzanne,
Thanks for the Intro and the info...
To Suzanne and EVERYONE,
I am also trying to develop standards and procedures for web developers, to
meet or exceed the Section 508 requirements for accessibility.
One of the things I am doing is breaking out the 508 requirements by each
impairment or disability, in order to allow those with identifiable disabled
communities to prioritize the accessibility work.
Is this something that you did as well, or did you work with the set of
accessibility requirements as a whole?
Any info or lists of standards beyond the Access Board's and the W3C's would
be MOST welcome. The task of identifying coding standards with so many
variables (different disabilities, browsers, OSs, assistive technology
tools) seems daunting, at best.
Thanks!
Lisa

Subject: Intro and digest question

Hello everyone,
I just wanted to send a brief introduction after having lurked here about a
week. I am a member of the web development team for the Mississippi
Department of Information Technology Services and also serve as the ITS Web
Accessibility team leader. Our team primarily creates web pages and
applications for state agencies, but are available to all government
agencies in Mississippi.
As a technology leader, ITS has taken the first steps with regard to
accessibility and the web sites we create. I have been researching and
learning about web accessibility for the last 7 months. We have come up
with standards and procedures which our web developers will follow. We
have created an image, ITS ACCESSIBLE, which will placed at the bottom of
all web pages we create and we are in the process of implementing this now.
The image will be linked to a page on our site which will explain the ITS
accessibility policy.
We have far to go, but everyone has to start at the beginning! I
especially enjoy how people on this list share with one another and work
together. I look forward to learning from the experts here. ;-)
By the way, is there a digest option to this list?

Suzanne
