3.3.2 Visible Labels requires that there be visible labels (not placeholder text and not just hidden screenreader text).

2.4.6 Descriptive Labels requires that the text of the labels clearly and meaningfully describe the purpose and use of the labelled element. This applies to instructions as well as label elements.

Subject: [WebAIM] WCAG SC 2.4.6 and 3.3.2 - difference?

Hello everybody,

What exactly is the difference between Success Criterion 2.4.6 and 3.3.2?

Am I right?

2.4.6 Headings and labels
- means, there should be descriptive headings and labels (focus on being descriptive)?

The term "label" is used for all kind of input elements isn't it?

3.3.2 Labels and Instructions
- means labels should be provided (focus on being present)?

thanks,
sonja
