If you are thinking of creating a survey system from scratch, you might want to consider creating a fork of the free open source LimeSurvey CE product. They offer paid subscriptions for support but you don't have to buy them.

On the Features page they claim it is W3C compliant and screen reader compatible. However, I am extremely doubtful that this is actually the case, and they do not provide any information to support the claim. However, fixing the user interface issues has got to be a lot easier than creating an entirely new product.

I would definitely be interested in participating in such a project because we have been considering using LimeSurvey for several years.

I was discussing Survey monkey with my colleagues to create a survey to identify how visually impaired use the web. We are trying to improve the browser/Assistive Technology combination for users in the health industry.

I was under the impression that Survey Monkey had an accessible UI, because their surveys tend to be accessible on the end-user side. Now, this confirms that on the content authoring side it is not.

While this is typical of CMS systems, it is not acceptable in my opinion as a Sr. Digital Accessibility Engineer.

I would like to find out how many of you would be interested in joining me to create a survey system that is accessible on both the content authoring and end-user sides.

What would be required of you:
1. Provide me with the type of authoring content you'd like to included 2. Provide me with the type of browser and assistive technology you use to access the web 3. Identify if you use mobile devices to create a survey and if you use an external keyboard to help you type faster

All I would need is user feedback. I can handle all of the technical aspects since I have a web/database servers in the cloud with high-end SSL encryption to create accounts.

Hi Sara,

I too tried to use SurveyMonkey to create a survey last year but had to send them feedback that they had actually hidden all the content within the dialogs from screenreaders. The reply I got was that they had no current
plans to make the survey creation process accessible.

I did look into using one or two others, but found none that had even tried for both accessible input and output.

Sorry this is a negative response. There's a real need for an end-to-end accessible survey / feedback system. I'd be really interested if anyone else has found one.

Our department is looking at purchasing surveymonkey. We are tasked with checking the accessibility of the program before purchase. We are also open to suggesting a different survey tool if it is found to be more accessible.

I have been able to tell that generally the surveys themselves (in
surveymonkey) are accessible to screen reader users- but I am having difficulty creating a survey using assistive technology (NVDA). As a sighted user- it very well could be user error. I am hoping for some feedback on the most accessible software for creating surveys. As well as if any programs produce an accessible output report.
