For a detailed discussion about the table header error (and others), view this thread on the Adobe Acrobat Forums:
https://community.adobe.com/t5/acrobat-discussions/table-headers-fail-in-accessibility-checker-after-september-14-2021-update/td-p/12387020/page/3

I didn't find any of the "correct answers" by Adobe's engineers to work, including the one to edit the Windows RegEdit and the FeatureState registry which will disable all checking of table headers.

Seriously. We're encouraged to not check headers so that there isn't any failure of the headers. Wicked smart, eh?

The problem is that Adobe PDF Maker is mis-tagging tables. Try my solution from my post on the forum today that uses Acrobat's Preflight utility.

And please keep voting about this mess at UserVoice, https://acrobat.uservoice.com/forums/590923-acrobat-for-windows-and-mac/suggestions/44183082-accessibility-errors-with-pdf-maker-update-sept-20

I have a sneaky feeling that because Adobe fixed one bug, they've let up on fixing the rest of them. Keep voting.

PS: I'll be covering this crapahola tagging in my PDF session at Accessing Higher Ground, details at https://accessinghigherground.org/checking-pdfs-for-pdf-ua-1-compliance-2/ .

Subject: [WebAIM] Acrobat PDF and tables

Hi all,

I have a follow-up question to the recent thread about PDF creator. I have the updated version 2021.700…

I am having trouble with tables and I'm not sure if this is a bug with Acrobat or something that I am doing wrong. I have documents in Microsoft Word that contain tables. When I export to PDF and run the Acrobat accessibility checker, I get the error "Headers - Failed"

In Microsoft Word, under Acrobat, Preferences, I have "enable advanced tagging" checked.

Under table properties, I have checked the box "Repeat as header row at the top of each page" for the header row.

Is there anything else I need to adjust or is this likely an issue with Acrobat? I'm a newbie to creating accessible PDF documents and greatly appreciate your advice!

Thanks,

Liv
