Interesting David. So it is a failure of language of parts. I happened to speak French. Are you using the Vocalizer Expressive voices? I use those for Arabic English and French, since I am trilingual.
Is it possible that you can save the file as an HTML one and review the table tags? I have found that this helps tremendously identify if it is word or JAWS doing that.
As far as the CTRL + Insert + t functionality, JAWS and NVDA work differently with Word. To accommodate JAWS make sure under the Alt tab under Table Properties to include the table description in the "Description" field as well as the "Title" field.
I am using Office 365 with the latest update along with JAWS 2025 the December release. I tested both the Title and Description fields individually and JAWS announced them properly. I do know in previous versions of JAWS that was not the case. That is why I make it a habit to fill out both fields under the Alt tab.
Which version of Office and JAWS are you using?
