Hi All,

My agency is the process of transitioning to a new CMS system. Those managing this process are collaborating with the vendor to create on-demand eLearning Modules. The modules have both audio and video. I (and a few other colleagues) have very recently been brought in to this in terms of accessibility, so I'm in the process of looking the modules with that mindset. I'm interested in hearing how you go about evaluating eLearning Modules - aside from having users test/pilot (we will be doing that soon) - it would be a great help to me. I've identified issues already, so I know that the modules are not yet compliant. However, before I submit anything for the project managers to address, I want to make sure I've done a complete evaluation. Thanks!

Hello,
First question you should ask is:
Can a user access the content only through touch (through a Braille
display), sound (through a screen reader or other audio), or visual
(through using a screen)?
Second, how does the content fit under WCAG:

After those, then you will want to consider users with learning
disabilities and users who speak different languages..
There are many other types of people with different needs, but WCAG aims to
create content that is accessible to most users.

Yes. One thing we don't have in our office is a refreshable Braille display in our office, so I'll be contacting our local division of blind services to see if they will test.

One thing I am concerned about is the video description. My expectation is that the vendor will include synchronized captioning and a transcript. However, I would like to have the expectation that they also include video description. I would rather not just have the learner rely on the transcript. Is video description something that we would be able require the vendor to do, or is it more likely something that the agency would have to add in? Have you dealt with vendors before on this? Any advice?
