Dear list,

Sorry for another question now on a different topic. Does anyone know
of any good screen reader accessible courses for pdf remedation
accessibility testing or web development courses for like
html/css/java script etc or on chrome's dev tools. Where would I go to
find such courses?
Thanks.

Sincerely,
Nathan Clark

HI Nathan,

Have a look at my own course to see if it fits your needs:

Web Accessibility Training Course - WCAG 2.1 Compliance
https://tinyurl.com/3arz4k54

It's not a training course on using a screen reader - but it contains a lot of the information relating to accessibility for screen reader users - and it includes interviews with screen reader users. It's mainly aimed at beginners.

Just a thought.

All the best,
Jim

One thing you need to keep in mind when looking at using a screen reader for PDF remediation is what your goal is. For example, if someone doesn't have some vision, they cannot fully remediate a PDF to be accessible. Screen readers and other types of adaptive technology can only read a PDF once it is tagged. During the remediation process, you need to be able to visually see that the tags match the type of content visually represented on the page of the document. Adaptive technology can be used to spot check after remediation or at times during the PDF remediation process, but they cannot be used for the entire remediation process of a PDF. They simply can't tell if anything is missing, if the content is in a logical reading order for the type of content and if the tags are correct for the type of content when content is auto tagged. Remediating PDF is a very visual process.

Cheers, Karen
