Subject: Reading WCAG 2.X recommendations with JAWS 2025: new Web verbosity setting
No previous message | Next message →
Hello JAWS Users,
Lately if you have attempted to navigate through the WCAG recommendations
(WCAG 2.1 or 2.2) using JAWS 2025 it is possible you would have been
confused when reading success criteria.
(WCAG 2.2 at https://www.w3.org/TR/WCAG22/)
JAWS by default will read the meaning of every linked term or phrase from
the glossary lower down that page. The What's New in JAWS 2025 does not
seem to list this new feature that has been added and turned on by default.
It is a Description checkbox in the Web Verbosity settings.
To turn this off, FS Support provided the following guidance which I am
sharing:
From your web browser
1. Insert + 6 on the numbers row
2. Type Web verbosity
3. Take note of verbosity level
4. Arrow to configure web verbosity and press Enter
5. Arrow to your verbosity level and press Spacebar
6. Arrow to description and uncheck this option.
7. Tab to OK and press Spacebar
8. Test.
Thanks,

Thank you, this is really useful. I have been wondering for a while now as to why Jaws does this.
