Because of bad experience with all those JavaScript-enabled websites out
there, that aren't accessible. That is one reason, but I'm not sure what the
percentage of screen readers that reason would apply to. Damn, even I find
myself turning off javascript alot of the time (non-screen reader user) to
avoid the plethora of javascript clutter that hinders my otherwise-enjoyable
experience of the web.
