In acrobat pro the path is File > Create PDF > Batch Create Multiple files. From there you will enter a Wizard that will allow you to select the files. As long as your conversion settings are set to create tagged PDFs you will get tagged PDFs as an output. You will need to make sure that the word documents were created correctly (structure, tables, images) or you still won't have accessible PDFs. You may also need to do some additional work to the tables and add language attributes to all of the resulting documents.

We looked into that, but "batch create from file" doesn't list
Word doc as a supported format, and the batch processing utility
doesn't list "create from file" as an option. We looked through
the help into the tool on the CS4 version of Acrobat, and
couldn't find any way to batch convert Word documents into PDF.
