Hi Bevi. I’ve found VoiceOver to work very well in Word documents that open in TextEdit, but I haven’t done much work with that or Pages yet. Regarding pdf files, I have found that they work best if I forward the ones that are emailed to me, to my work email account. My volunteer job email account is a Google subdomain, and if I just hit Enter on the pdf attachment it reads just fine. I still have a bit of confusion on the whole interaction thing in VoiceOver, but I’m getting the hang of it for the most part.

Welcome back to the list, Jake. And welcome to the Mac World, too.
Thanks for your review of VoiceOver.
Question: how well does VoiceOver work for you when reading native Word
documents and accessible PDFs?
(I mean a really accessible PDF, not one of the millions of junky, poorly
constructed PDFs that aren't fully accessible.)

Hi everybody. My name's Jake, and I was on this list awhile back but had to
unsubscribe, because somehow I was double-posting here. But I just re-joined
yesterday. I got a MacBook Air just after Christmas last year. This is my
first and I really enjoy it. I wasn't too optimistic about using VoiceOver
after hearing mainly negative things about it. However, I have found it to
be an excellent screen reader. I use both Safari and Google Chrome for
browsing the web, and have had little trouble. I also used Chromevox
briefly, but found myself having to deal with constant speech crashes and
the like. Anyway, that's it from me for right now. I'm glad to be back on
the list!
