Subject: Re: [WebAIM] IAAP certified Web Accessibility Specialist exam (and CPACC)

The IAAP officially launched March 2014, but it had been in the works many years before that. There are a lot of steps that go into launching a professional organization, so it takes time to do it right. Certification through IAAP has been available since March of 2016, so that's relatively new (certification is another thing that takes time to do right), but it is gaining traction, and becoming an important part of the accessibility profession.

As for my own role in all of this, I've been the Chair of the Certification Committee since even before the IAAP officially launched. We are in the process of transitioning to a slightly different Certification Committee model, so my role will evolve there, but I'm still very much involved.
