Re: Italic font style

Hi,

I would recommend avoiding the use of italic fonts particularly for large
paragraphs of text as it can make the text appear wobbly on screen and
consequently difficult to read.

I don't believe that there is anything in the WAI WCAG 1.0 Guidelines about
this (http://www.w3c.org/TR/WCAG10/). The Royal National Institute of the
Blind (RNIB) do however recommend that the use of italics is avoided.
Please refer to the following pages on their website:

http://www.rnib.org.uk/xpedio/groups/public/documents/publicwebsite/public_wac_waicheckpoints.hcsp

A useful source of information for other issues on accessibility can be
found at http://www.rnib.org.uk/webaccesscentre.

Kind regards, Ruth

Does anyone here know where use of italic fonts stands from an
accessibility
perspective?

should they be entirely avoided and bold or bullets be used to pull out
information?

Users viewing sites with italic fonts may have trouble if they are using
assistive technology such as zoom tools and screen resizers?

Be interested to see what you guys think.

Jake.
