As someone who has worked with Rian pretty much since the beginning of
the team, I can tell you that her staying would have helped no one. Rian
was one of the most diplomatic, and hard-working, members of the team.
And while the whole team isn't resigning, we are definitely going to
meet to figure out what to do because the mixed signals at best we've
gotten from leadership of the project is not good and we cannot continue
to fix and remediate accessibility issues with Gutenberg and continue to
fix and remediate the rest of WordPress. It pains me greatly to say all
of this. I have spent the last eight years of my life contributing as
much as my free time would permit to WordPress, and I have spent my
entire lifetime as a WordPress user evangelizing it to other people with
disabilities. This entire Gutenberg project has been nothing but a
source of heartache, sadness, anger and betrayal for me. I realize that
none of this is probably rational but it's just the way it is.
