We generally do WCAG audits and expert reviews with the default settings of operating systems, browsers and assistive technologies unless there is evidence that users typically change them or they are essential (such as changing the keyboard accessibility settings in Safari on macOS).

During user testing, we allow the participants to make any configuration changes they want, but they almost never do. Even when they do, the changes mostly affect the accessibility of the operating system or desktop applications.

Subject: [WebAIM] A11y testing with Android - turn off TalkBack "Enhanced focus"?

A question to those testing the accessibility of stuff (in my case native apps) under Android: When you test, do you turn off the TalkBack setting "Enhanced focus" (I believe this is on by default)? When it is turned on and you navigate back using in-app back buttons or the Android device back button, focus returns to where it was on the prior view.

For meaningful TalkBack testing, It seems reasonable to have this setting activated because it is default and secondly it seems mostly beneficial for users (focus lands at the start of the view othwerwise).
I am just concerned that having it on may mask  some app focus issues or distort results in some other way. Any thoughts?
