Hi Emily,

You can make it keyboard accessible without providing a keyboard shortcut. Presumably there is something for a mouse user to click on in order to create the new tab. Browsers place a small button to the right of the last tab. You should provide keyboard access to this, even if you are also thinking of providing an optional keyboard shortcut.

Subject: [EXTERNAL] [WebAIM] Opening a new tab within a tab panel while on a browser

Hi all--
Hoping you can help me out with this quandary we have. We have an application where users can add a new tab in a tab panel, much like how users can open a new tab within browser. What we are finding tricky is making the option to open a new tab within a tab panel keyboard accessible when on a browser.
Using CTRL + T will open a new browser tab, so what would be an intuitive and predictable option to create a tab within a tab panel?
Thank you!
Emily
