If there's no video content, then I'm assuming this is some audio player
where you have an additional custom way of showing captions? If so, I'd
assume there's no danger of the captions covering anything, unless you
were planning of somehow overlaying them over the webpage itself? If so,
I'd recommend just avoiding any problems and having some kind of
expand/collapse widget where these custom captions have their own space
(rather than overlaying them over anything else).
Unless I'm misunderstanding what your meaning of audio-only content is
here...
