The failure is related to the use of the letter 'k' based upon the SC. Not related to the screen reader. The SC references, not to use single letter shortcut keys as it impacts speech (voice recognition) users. The SC references:

Turn off
A mechanism is available to turn the shortcut off;
Remap
A mechanism is available to remap the shortcut to include one or more non-printable keyboard keys (e.g., Ctrl, Alt);
Active only on focus
The keyboard shortcut for a user interface component is only active when that component has focus.
Thus technically the app you mention in your example fails. If they used a modifier of ctrl, alt or both, then this would pass. The challenge here of course is to select something that does not impact the user agent.
