You might like to try W3 Schools at http://www.w3schools.com/

It's comprehensive but does provide a gentle learning curve.

Subject: [WebAIM] Recommended HTML/CSS tutorial?

Hello,

A friend would like to learn HTML/CSS. I learned it in bits and pieces -
it
would be nice to get her up to speed quickly.

Can you recommend a particularly good online tutorial or book? She would
need to know the HTML basics and then move on to CSS.

I did a Google search but found some of the tutorials a bit daunting, both
in what they cover and the presentation (lots of links, distracting ads),
etc.

Many thanks for your help!

Catherine
