Hello All,

Does anyone have experience with SharePoint 2010 accessibility? We have
received an enquiry for assessing a SharePoint site for accessibility -
but I want to understand the level of accessibility incorporated in SP
2010 for us to be able to come up with estimates.

I looked up the archives but hasn't been any recent discussions on the
same. So looking forward to getting some insights from the experts!

Cheers!
Pooja Nahata

The code output by Sharepoint 2010 is more accessible than that of
Sharepoint 2007. A lot is going to depend on how much customisation has been
done to Sharepoint in order to render the website you'll be assessing
though.

Out of the box, Sharepoint 2010 won't achieve WCAG 2.0 Level AA. It
will go a fair way towards it, but things like page structure and reading
order are still troublesome.

If you're putting together a quote, I'd suggest treating it as a
fairly average job in terms of assessment time. Sharepoint isn't the CMS
accessibility problem child anymore, but it isn't quite goody two shoes
either.

The thing that might affect your quote is how Sharepoint specific
you want to make your solutions. If you're looking purely at the rendered
code, and your client is happy to translate your findings into the way
they're using Sharepoint, it won't make much difference to you. If you want
to get specific though, you might want to factor in some time for getting
your head into Sharepoint (but that's a fairly big task).

Léonie.
