Subject: Question about NVDA in app behaviors

Does anyone know a way to drop focus on an element while in app 'mode' in
NVDA without it slapping on some silly label? I don't want it to read that
it is a "group", "button", "section", link" or other labeling context.
Can anyone suggest some options here? I'm willing to try anything.
