I don't know that you have stated it before but it sounds like you are using
a client-side scripting language such as JavaScript to sort the table. It is
my opinion that yes, there would be problems for two reasons (1) if the
language is not supported or disabled and (2) it may not be obvious that a
change has occurred - a new page or refresh would "announce" itself to the
user but a JavaScript resort may not.

We have something like this sortable table on the www.UMassOnline.net site
courses pages, but they use ColdFusion on the server to resort the tables, so it
does come out like a page refresh, and JAWS does go back to the top of the page
(I just tried it out). We have not taken this to be a problem for
accessibility, though on this site it would certainly help if we had a
"skip-navigation" link to get around the long list of navigation items at the
beginning of the page.

(This site was designed back before 508 to WCAG 1.0 priority 1 standards and has
not been rechecked for a while - I know it has at least some relatively minor
problems, and I would love to have time to fix it up and add 508 things . . .)
