Hi all,

Does anyone have a suggestion for a replacement we can use for WAVE?

I just learned recently learned that WebAIM no longer provides their WAVE
tool for FireFox, Now they only provide it as online service or as an
extension for Chrome.

Unfortunately, my agency can't use the online version (we're behind a
firewall). And Chrome is also out of the question for various reasons.

Is there a tool/plugin we can use that is available to Internet Explorer or
FireFox?

Thanks in advance,
Sam

Jared, have y'all worked out a way to license WAVE to sit on a local server?

Sounds like there's a demand for it…

More accurately, an unfixed bug in Firefox prohibits us from providing
or updating the WAVE extension for Firefox. We would provide the
add-on if Firefox supported it.

However, we are looking into the new Firefox add-on APIs. As soon as
they support the functionality required for WAVE to work, we will
certainly be releasing an updated version.

We do license a stand-alone version of WAVE that can be installed
locally. So long as the machine it is installed on can access the
pages to be evaluated, then this may be a possibility for you. It
does, however, like our online version, have some limitations that are
not present in the browser extension.

Jared, great to hear WAVE in Firefox might come back — I miss it! Is there anything we can do as a community to get the needed functionality in place?

Not at this point. The Firefox add-on system is moving to a superset
of the APIs currently supported by Chrome. Because the extension
already works in Chrome, it's just a matter of testing and ensuring
that Firefox supports the right APIs. We're in communication with the
Mozilla team that is adding this functionality. We're starting testing
now to see how close they are to supporting what we need, but after
two years of frustration with Mozilla's lack of interest in fixing the
critical bug, we may now be on track for a near-future port of the
Chrome extension to Firefox.
