We are smiling big over here. Rather than post the usual question, we're claiming a piece of success! We have used SMIL and captioned our first video. Check it out at: http://www.abilityforum.com/ADAspeakers.htm
A big thanks to Andrew Kirkpatrick for pointing us in the right direction.

In the Real Player 8 menus, choose View, Preferences...
In the in the Accessibility section in the Content tab, choose Settings...
Tick "Use accessibility features when available", then choose Show Captions

In Real Player 8, go into View, Preferences, Content, Accessibility and check for captioning to be On. I don't know why you wouldn't have sound. Can you hear others videos with your Real Player?

the sound is my own equipment situation, i installed a few things and unplugged a few others, so I am currently working soundless for a while. though I do work in Multimedia, and am back in college this semester, so I best get that fixed. (smile and SMIL)

Is it just me or whenever I try to view any closed captioning videos that have been posted on this forum, instead of being able to download the file, the time for buffering just keeps getting longer and longer. Started out with 4 seconds to buffer and then before I knew it, buffering would take 34+ seconds and kept increasing.

Hi Jean,
This looks great! We are working on captions too but are not yet ready to go public. Have you done any work yet on audio descriptions?
My only minor suggestion has to do with the color coding in the captions. It would be good to mark the speaker's name in some other way in addition to color, such as
"speaker:" or "<speaker>" (not including quote marks).
Also, the way my pc is set up, a lot of multiline captions get cut off at the bottom, so I was very pleased to see that these did not! That may just be a problem with some QuickTime movies though.
Thanks again for showing us this!
Best wishes,
Carol
