Hello all,
I am trying to understand the auto-update component of SC 2.2.2 -
specifically, how does that apply to something like an inbox message
indicator that changes value when new messages arrive?
Would such an auto-update to the number of new messages require the app to
have functionality to pause, stop, hide, or control the frequency of such
updated information? How about if the user can query the element to
identify if there are new messages?
I understand that if the app were to present a visual notification across
the top of the screen that there was a new message, but how does changing a
counter apply with respect to an auto-update?
Thanks,
sean

Or would those messages be seen as "essential" and therefore exempt from the rule?
Other items to note:
- Authors have the option of providing the user with a means to control the frequency of updates when content is auto-updating and
- There is no five second exception for auto-updating since it makes little sense to auto-update for just three seconds and then stop

Perhaps SC 2.2.2 may not apply since the updates do not occur at a specific time interval. ""Auto-updating" refers to content that updates or disappears based on a preset time interval."
