Dear all,

Im facing the challenge of preparing an accessible work station for a
Citrix (server based) user. Would you have any suggestions how we could
turn the program she has to work with accessible for her although it is
located on some far server?

Thanks,

Hi,
The answer to the question depends on which screen reader your user has. If it's JAWS, for example, the JAWS Help has instructions for this. If it's NVDA, there is an add-on you can get that runs on the server that feeds the information the user needs on their end to them. I do not have the direct link to that add-on.

Thanks.

JAWS will require a copy on the server side and another copy on the user's workstation. With special configuration, those two will work together to provide access to all of the underlying information that screen readers need.

I can't speak to other assistive technologies, though.

Take a look at NVDA and the NVDA Remote add-on. Both of them are free.

It is my understanding that the remote plugin is similar to the JAWS Tandem feature where you can access a remote computer where a human is located or where you have setup a matching key -- you can use auto connect to connect automatically later future to a secure desktop. However, I'm not sure this solves the issue for access of a Citrix environment. The ability to install the software without speech and have the information send via the citrix channel in a closed environment is beyond the NVDA remote access plug-in as far as I know -- but I could be mistaken.
