Over the last year, I've taught a half dozen inmates at a women's prison
to do website accessibility audits.  To keep them current, I would like
to show them printed copies of this forum's postings, with names,
phones, and email addresses redacted with black marker. If anyone cares
to make suggestions, please feel free.  If anyone objects, please post
your objection here and I won't do it.  If you're interested in why I'm
doing all this, please see www.access2online.com/whyinmates.htm

Cheers,

Prison inmates helping websites become accessible

I don't think anyone can prevent you from doing this even if they had
objections, but thanks for asking.

What are the logistics? Are you using the list archives? Are you going to
manually go to each thread topic and select "View all messages in this
Thread" so that you can see the entire discussion on one page? If so,
you'll get a lot of repeated text because when people reply, it often
includes a copy of the mail they're replying to. For example, the "Selects
with drop downs" thread, when I view all the messages, the original
question is repeated 18 times and would take about 70 pages if you were to
print it.

If you're going to manually prepare a document to print, the names and
phones could be manually removed from the document. The archives should
already have emails removed.

If you want other current discussions to print, you could look at
stackoverflow.com and view anything with an "accessibility" tag.

The large amounts of repeatedly quoted content would definitely be a realistic consideration. You might try (which is what I've done when I wanted to compile opinions from a thread) copy-pasting relevant responses. At that point, you could strip out PII.

Thanks for asking.

Peter:

I also second Mike Henry's recommendation for the logistical reasons he mentions.

However, I do feel it's important to help educate inmates for the future outside of prison.
My understanding is that there is a relatively high percentage of learning disabilities in the inmate population.

Best of luck.
