Subject: Accessible video player

Hello All.
I'd like to embed a video from YouTube and/or Vimeo on a website - both
intranet and public. I want an accessible video player that has the ability
to navigate in and out of the player via keyboard as well as support for
both captioning and audio descriptions. While researching Oz Player and
Able Player came up from the top results. Has anyone used either of these?
If so, would be great if you can share your experience. OR are there other
methods I can use?

Hi there,
I don't have any knowledge of the platforms you referred to, but I've found YouTube's native player to be pretty accessible in terms of standard navigation. I can't speak to Vimeo accessibility. I found this guide on how to add captions to both YouTube and Vimeo videos which you might find helpful - https://mediaaccess.org.au/web/how-to-caption-a-youtube-video
But it looks like the two player options you suggested are the only way to get decent audio description.

Hi Rosemarie,
Both are good products. I used AblePlayer and they have just updated it (I
think the announcement was official at CSUN) to version 3.
I love Able Player, but at the time I used it mobile was still a bit
problematic. That has now changed from what they said for this newest
version:
https://github.com/ableplayer/ableplayer/releases
I recently tested Able (not the newest one) with Dragon and it worked well
overall, which was nice.
The other product is great too, and may work well for your project.
For me, I liked Able because you could add sign language, audio description
and a rolling text transcript with video description. I also liked the
chapter option. I just liked the set up better for the project I was
working on. Both are good to use and in my view some of the best for HTML 5
viewers.
